At OKAZE, as we are car enthusiasts and we trade them, it's always difficult to choose which ones to keep. However, for the Toyota Supra, the whole team was unanimous: we're keeping it! So we decided to tell you about it, because we're really excited about this vehicle. The Toyota Supra is pure driving pleasure!

Supra MK 5 specifications

  • Engine: 3.0-liter turbocharged inline 6-cylinder engine
  • Power: 335 HP
  • Torque: 365 lbs of torque
  • 0 to 100km/h in 4 seconds
  • 67 000 $

Make no mistake, this vehicle is far more capable than advertised. In addition to being fun to drive and having a sense of solidity, which is hard to get for the same price elsewhere with competitors, we have made a vehicle in a league that was reserved for the supercar a short time ago financially accessible.

Bodywork

One of the elements for which the Supra is particularly appreciated is the beauty of its bodywork, the details, the pencil strokes of this vehicle are either very appreciated or hated. There is not a single part of the bodywork that has not been touched and that does not have some roundness. In fact, even the roof has two dents to remind us of the racing heritage where you had to enter with your helmet.

The history

These days, Toyota's mission is to provide increasingly ecological and fuel-efficient vehicles. How can a company like this one, 20 years later, with almost no expertise in sports cars, manage to come up with something like the new generation Supra? By forming an alliance! Just like it was fashionable to do in the 1990s and 2000s. Toyota approached BMW to borrow a chassis and powertrain from the BMW Z4. So in every way this vehicle is, except for the body, a BMW Z4. Brand purists have decried Toyota's decision to use another manufacturer to deliver one of its vehicles to the market. Toyota had no choice but to take on the expertise of a major engine manufacturer to enhance the ability to generate sporty vehicles with a soul. Something that had been lost over time and they succeeded! The only flaw is that they didn't produce enough of them. In fact, in the first year of launch, only about 300 were produced in Canada. Few elected officials were able to get one and spread the good news at the same time.

Some vehicles are milestones in film history like the 4th generation Toyota Supra, the A80 MK4. The strong cult model was the 2JZ GTE with the Getrag 6 speed transmission, the one everyone wanted, the one that made the movie Fast & Dangerous star and reputation!

In total, there are 5 generations of Toyota Supra. The new one we know well because it is a contemporary vehicle. The previous model, the MK4 A80, is the most famous of all Supras, the one that eclipsed its predecessors. It's been on our screens, on the streets and sold for astronomical sums of money until recently at auctions because, it seems, it's the Supra of Supras. The first 3 generations were Toyota Celica Supras, the Supra was not a separate model, it was a supreme Toyota Celica "Supra."

The MK5: a new area

Is the new generation Supra better than the old one? In some ways it is and in some ways it's not. Is the feel of the new Supra as brilliant as the old one? Certainly not! But, as far as I'm concerned, it's the best value for your money in 2020 because it costs $67,000 and it puts the driver front and centre and makes you feel like you're one with the car, which performs extremely well and puts a smile on your face every time you take a turn. Why do we love the Supra so much? Because it's the best you can buy for $67,000 in terms of performance and handling. A comparable vehicle would be the Corvette and a fully equipped Corvette for under $100,000, don't look for it, there isn't one. So that's what makes the Toyota Suprala such a success. The press is unanimous: it's an exceptional vehicle!
